We had our first appointment on Friday. Scott was able to go with me. We got all settled in our exam room, then the nurse comes back and says, "come with me, she wants to do an ultrasound." Scott starts to get a little nervous...wondering why in the world she wants to do an ultrasound without even seeing or talking with us? I was a little concerned, but thought, cool...we get to see the baby already!! I was concerned she wouldn't be able to see the baby with the external probe and have to do it internally...yuck! But she honed right in on the baby and it was just kicking away! It even waved at us! She told us she might be able to see the sex if it was a boy depending on how it was laying...but it wasn't laying the right way at all. It was measuring a day ahead of even the due date they gave me (which was 1 day earlier than I had figured from things here on the internet). So we have an "official" "estimated" due date of May 10! She said we could find out the sex at the next appointment if we wanted to...I don't know if Scott has decided what he wants to do yet...
And of course we had the "Advanced Maternal Age" conversation. We were offered the Nuchal Translucency Test, which we would have to go to Louisville for. The doctor asked if finding anything out would change anything about the pregnancy (read between the lines, would we terminate). Of course we wouldn't do anything, so we have decided against the 1st trimester screens at least. She said that we also can have our 20 week ultrasound (the "big one") done in Louisville with a high risk doctor. The list of things they check for would be about twice as long as what the techs here in Madison check for. We haven't talked about that extensively yet, but I think that may be a possibility...just to see the baby longer!!
I have been fighting this cough for about 3 weeks now and I am sick of taking medicine (even though they say it is safe for me to take...) and sick of coughing. So Scott asked the doctor about it and she said she thinks I have pregnancy induced asthma. Has anyone ever heard of this? I haven't and neither has anyone else I have talked about it. I have an inhaler that I can use ever 4 hours. It seems to be helping a little bit, but I still have a little bit of a cough. She said that if it doesn't work after a few days, we would look into whether reflux would be causing it. I didn't think that sounded right because I don't have heartburn or deal with reflux ever...but who knows? I had a bad coughing fit again last night and it was about 1/2 an hour after dinner and caused me to lose my dinner...so who knows? Pregnancy is a crazy thing!!
Next appointment...November 11...(1st one on Britney's birthday, 2nd on Kendall's...sorry Parker, we missed yours!)

It is out there...kind of!
So it is out there for the world to find out...kind of. We haven't posted on Twitter or Facebook, but Scott did tell his students on Saturday (after they got a gold at distrcits...woo hoo!). So with a small town like Madison, I'm sure it is only a matter of time! I will wait to post on Facebook or send a Tweet until we hear the heartbeat next Friday. I am still a little leary of telling people, since there is still that small chance...but in 9 days we should be pretty sure!!
